Speaking on Fox News, Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) warned of a potential tragic consequence of the Green New Deal — the mass killing of American jobs.
Calling the deal “a socialist agenda if there ever was one,” Blackburn said that if enacted, its radical policies would devastate Tennessee’s working class, eliminating cattle farming, shuttering oil refineries and forcing FedEx, one of the state’s largest employers, to go out of business.
Blackburn joins a chorus of voices speaking out against Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal, a compilation of environmentalist and socialist goals so unrealistic that many have dismissed is as “unserious.”
Among the deal’s many controversial goals are the elimination of air travel and a move from fossil fuels to 100 percent alternative energy in a span of just ten years — to which Blackburn remarked, as have many other observers, that the technology to achieve such a momentous shift “doesn’t even exist.”
