Trump Aims To Bypass Environmental Waivers To Speed Up Infrastructure Projects

As it stands now, for virtually every infrastructure improvement, the federal government or its contractors must receive certain approvals from environmental reviews. President Trump now wants to bypass that.

By declaring an economic emergency, the president will issue the order to expedite construction project permits of highways, mines, pipelines and other projects, Fox News reports.

The report lists unnecessary delays and economic security as reasons for the change.

“Unnecessary delays in timely agency actions will deny our citizens opportunities for jobs and economic security and will hinder our economic recovery from the national emergency, keeping millions of Americans out of work,” the order says.

Of course, Nancy Pelosi already objected to the order even before Trump officially signed it.

“The President’s Executive Order waiving critical environmental protections is a direct threat to the environment and to countless vulnerable communities who are disproportionately impacted by the climate crisis,” said Pelosi.
