Even though the democrat governor doesn’t wear one in public, the state of Virginia is moving to make it mandatory that face masks be worn in public.
Gov. Ralph Northam was observed recently in public while not wearing a mask. And while that shouldn’t be entirely strange, it does seem odd given that he and his party are leading a charge to make the wearing of masks a requirement for everyone in the state except in rare exceptions.
Northam has ordered that people must wear masks anywhere people can congregate inside, including retail spaces, government facilities, and public transportation, according to a report from Breitbart News. Masks will also be required in restaurants, except while patrons are eating. Residents won’t have to wear a mask during exercise, and children 9-years-old and younger are exempt from the rule.
“I am taking this step because science increasingly shows us that the virus spreads less easily when everyone is wearing face coverings,” said Northam. (Northam should know a thing or two about face coverings.)
Local police have said they will not enforce the rule.
