In a shocking report from the golf world, fan favorite John Daly has been diagnosed with bladder cancer.
The 54-year-old went to a doctor’s appointment over what he thought was back pain and kidney stones but then received the unexpected news.
“[The urologist said] it doesn’t look like any stones are in there. But unfortunately, you have bladder cancer,” said Daly to the Golf Channel. “After I did the CT [scan] I was fixing to sip on my Diet Coke and he said, ‘Don’t drink anything. We have to get you back in here and get this cancer out of you.’”
Golf Digest says the current prognosis is good: “The two-time major winner said he underwent a procedure to remove the cancer, which was successful. However, he asserted a need to stay vigilant, noting his cancer has an 85 percent chance of recurrence.”
