House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer have banded together to sit on impeachment articles.
Their actions are infuriating for the majority of Americans who oppose removing Trump, as well as those who just want basic fairness. It’s not fair to accuse someone of something but then refuse them the right to their own trial.
“We’re both going to work as hard as we can to get a fair trial,” Schumer told reporters. Schumer also said that he and Speaker Pelosi are on, “the same page” with regards to sitting on impeachment.
Democrats, like Schumer and Pelosi, seem to believe that Republicans want to put impeachment behind them, and this will create leverage. But Senator Majority Leader Mitch McConnell seems to have laughed off the suggestion.
McConnell and other Republicans seem to be reasoning that impeachment is already unpopular, it isn’t getting more popular, and Republicans never wanted it in the Senate to begin with.
It seems that Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer have backed themselves into a corner. Republicans have no intention of removing Trump from office or giving in to Democrat demands for more witnesses. And meanwhile, their unpopular move to impeach the President is not getting any more popular.
