In less that a week of being in the Oval Office, Joe Biden has abandoned historical precedent and issued a record number of executive orders.
“President Joe Biden has issued more executive orders in his first week in office — not yet complete, as of this writing — than any of his 45 predecessors,” report Breitbart News.
Even CNN noted that Biden has “issued 33 executive orders, actions, proclamations, memoranda and agency directives.”
Why does this matter?
First, it’s a stunning departure from the normal display of presidential power. Biden ran on unity and executive orders circumvent the legislative branch for approval.
Secondly, an aggressive executive order strategy is usually explained away when the President complains that he does not have a friendly Congress. But Biden has exceptionally friendly numbers where the Democrats do not have a minority in either side of Congress.
“Past presidents have defended the aggressive use of executive orders when the opposing party controls one or both houses of Congress,” said Joel Pollack. “But in this case, Biden’s Democratic Party controls both the House and the Senate, leaving few obstacles.”
