Harry Reid, who is now retired from the United States Senate, sent a powerful message to his fellow Democrats: underestimate Donald Trump at your own peril.
Reid, in a sit-down interview with CNN, said he himself had underestimated Trump. “No matter what the subject, any argument he involves himself in, it’s on his terms. You’re always arguing against him,” Reid admitted.
Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Reid nailed this one.
Reid went on to spout standard Democrat talking points, including the line about how Senate Republicans are “standing up” to Donald Trump. Why they would stand up to him for following campaign promises like building the wall and trying to drain the swamp of corruption is a another question, of course.
But one thing is now clear: Democrats are having to face the reality that Trump is a formidable opponent, and he could definitely win re-election, potentially by a large margin, in 2020.
When Democrats like Joe Biden say there are going to beat Trump like a drum, it just encourages more Democrats to get complacent and feel like they have this election “in the bag.” Let them go on thinking it. It’ll make Trump’s win in 2020 that much bigger.
