Fox anchor says IG report goes beyond FISA abuse

In potentially explosive news, Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo announced on Sunday that Inspector General Michael Horowitz’ up coming report on alleged Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act violations by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI goes beyond FISA abuses and is “as thick as a telephone book.”

If true, this could prove potentially explosive for people such as James Comey and Barack Obama.

FISA courts are supposed to stop Americans from being spied on by their own government without warrants and without reason. But according to some reports, the DOJ and FBI have been abusing their authority — and even lying to the FISA judges themselves.

The top GOP assertion is that DOJ officials lied to the court by using the now-discredited Steele dossier to get warrants against Trump associates – ultimately leading to the Mueller investigation which gripped the nation for two long years.

Officials such as John Brennan, James Comey, and Andrew McCabe maintain that they are innocent if any wrongdoing and this report from Fox News appears to be bad news for them.

However, I would be cautious about putting too much stock in predictions about the IG’s investigation. Thus far these investigations have proved disappointing. We should not get our hopes up that an agency that is part of the DOJ will fully hold accountable those who put our nation (and the Trump White House) through so much grief.
