The possibility of Gavin Newsom’s gubernatorial recall actually happening could have implications for the balance of power in the Senate.
Here’s how this could happen. Assuming Newsom is unsuccessful in holding off the recall, it is possible a Republican candidate would then be placed in the position of Governor.
That new Republican governor then could, although he would not have to, appoint the replacement for the recently retired Democrat Diane Feinstein.
According to Breitbart, the Democrats are very concerned:
The question was one that is intriguing many observers, and worrying may Democrats: if Newsom loses, and is replaced by a Republican, then the replacement for Feinstein in heavily-Democratic California could also be a member of the GOP, meaning control of the Senate, currently tied 50-50 with Harris as tiebreaker, would shift to Republicans.
