CNN’s Joe Lockhart, a Democrat who served in the Clinton White House, claimed on Twitter to have evidence that GOP Senators were surprised by the strength of Democrats’ case against President Trump and could, conceivably, vote to remove him.
Lockhart claimed to have overheard two Republicans. “Overheard convo between two Republican Senators who only watch Fox News. ‘is this stuff real? I haven’t heard any of this before. I thought it was all about a server. If half the stuff Schiff is saying is true, we’re up shit’s creek. Hope the White House has exculpatory evidence,” Lockhart tweeted.
There’s just one problem: the conversation never happened, and Lockhart made the whole conversation up.
After some time had passed and Lockhart had been thoroughly embarrassed on his own Twitter feed, Lockhart admitted, “Ok maybe I made up the convo, but you know that’s exactly what they’re thinking.”
But that was not before he had been retweeted, including by the Washington Post’s Jennifer Rubin — who hilariously claims to be a conservative. By 4:30 yesterday afternoon, the tweet had been retweeted 4 thousand times, and nearly 14 thousand people had liked the tweet.
In other words, CNN’s Lockhart got his way: he convinced a bunch of gullible people of a lie, and by the time he admitted it, thousands of people believed it as gospel truth.
This exposes two major problems: first, CNN employs liars. And secondly, people like Rubin are always excited to amplify these lies without any sort of verification at all. Perhaps this is why Democrat voters have been so sadly misled that they believe there’s actually a chance Trump will be removed from office.
