Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) got some devastating news from none other than liberal CNN host Jake Tapper, who told Schiff that “McConnell’s not going to do what you guys want him to do” in regards to impeachment.
During Sunday’s State of the Union, Tapper questioned impeachment leaders’ strategy behind holding up the articles of impeachment from advancing to the Senate.
Tapper referenced Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s statement on Friday that he is “content to continue the ordinary business of the Senate” until Democrats decide to turn over the articles.
Tapper then asked, “How long are democratic leaders prepared to hold on to the articles, might this go on until February, could this be indefinite?”
Schiff reiterated that it’s unlikely that the impasse will continue forever, but that the House is attempting to force McConnell to agree to a “fair trial” — aka, a trial on Democrats terms. As a side note, if Democrats simply wanted McConnell’s consent to a fair trial, he already gave it on Friday when he said that the Senate will indeed “render sober judgment as the framers envisioned.”
That’s not good enough for House Dems though. As Schiff was rehashing the Democrat talking points, Tapper matter-of-factly reminded Schiff that “McConnell’s not going to do what you guys want him to do.”
Schiff tried to spin McConnell’s refusal to bow to Democrat demands by saying that the “success” of Pelosi’s obstructionism lies in “exposing” McConnell as being in cahoots with Trump.
It’s very telling that even CNN knows that Pelosi’s strategy is a losing one. Schiff’s clumsy attempts to justify the obstructionism of House leadership aren’t fooling anyone.
