On Tuesday morning, President Trump officially announced that he had fired John Bolton as National Security Advisor. Trump said that Bolton had to go because Trump “disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions.”
A few minutes after Trump’s announcement, Bolton made his own tweet claiming that he wasn’t fired – but that he resigned… voluntarily.
“I offered to resign last night and President Trump said, ‘Let’s talk about it tomorrow.'”
Washington Post reporter Robert Costa says that Bolton sent him a text message today that said the following:
“Let’s be clear, I resigned, having offered to do so last night.”
