Although President Donald Trump has not said so in his own words, Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy believes Trump has effectively admitted defeat in the race for the White House by allowing the General Services Administration (GSA) to begin the transition process.
“The president, in effect, has conceded when he ordered the General Services Administration to begin the transition,” the Louisiana senator told Fox News host Chris Wallace on Sunday, according to Breitbart.
Cassidy’s comments came in response to a question from Wallace about whether Trump is damaging our democracy by claiming the 2020 election was rigged.
Cassidy may be trying to thread the needle, but the point needed to be made. Trump’s public comments may be aimed at drawing attention to possible problems with the election, but procedurally, the president has not stood in the way of a peaceful transition.
“So if by damaging our democracy, you mean that the next administration won’t be prepared, that preparation is taking place,” Cassidy insisted Sunday, according to Breitbart.
