The portion of the Republican Convention set to be held Jacksonville, Florida has been canceled by President Donald Trump.
According to Fox News, the president based his decision on the recent trend of COVID-19 in the area.
“The timing for this event is not right, it’s just not right,” Trump said while speaking at the White House on Thursday, according to Fox. “To have a big convention, it’s just not the right time.”
The GOP had named Jacksonville as the new location for its National Convention last month after feuding with North Carolina about the terms of the event.
“There is nothing more important in our country than keeping our people safe,” Trump said Thursday, according to Fox.
