After being admitted for a non-surgical procedure to treat her gallbladder, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is leaving the hospital to rest and hear cases from her home, Breitbart reports.
Ginsburg stayed the night after receiving treatment for what Breitbart described as “a benign gallbladder condition” before being discharged by physicians at the Johns Hopkins University Hospital.
Per Breitbart’s report, this is far from the only procedure in Ginsburg’s recent medical history:
The court’s oldest justice has been in the hospital twice since November because of infections. She also received outpatient radiation treatment in New York in August for a tumor on her pancreas.Ginsburg has twice been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and also had lung surgery in December 2018 to remove cancerous growths. She underwent surgery for colorectal cancer in 1999.
Indeed, the health of the 87-year-old justice has been the subject of much speculation. Ginsburg’s decisions are consistently left-leaning, so her exit from the Supreme Court during President Donald Trump’s administration would be another significant development in terms of the high court’s ideology.
For now, however, Ginsburg seems determined to continue working from home. It remains unclear when the Supreme Court will return to in-person hearings.
