Senator Joe Manchin, the moderate Democrat from West Virginia, has put the kibosh on President Biden’s Build Back Better plan.
Macho Manchin held his ground against the bill despite massive amounts of pushback from fellow Democrats.
“I cannot vote to continue with this piece of legislation. I can’t get there,” said Manchin.
“Democrats have hoped to use budgetary reconciliation to pass the legislation, as that would allow Democrats to pass the bill using a simple majority in Congress’ upper chamber. However, since Democrats only have a one-member majority, it would require the approval of two swing votes, Manchin and Senator Kyrsten Sinema,” reported Breitbart News.
“This is a no on this legislation,” said Manchin.
“That bill is a mammoth piece of legislation,” Manchin added.
Manchin has voiced concerns about the bill’s $1.7 trillion price tag.
Manchin also said he had concern about extending the child tax credit provision, which is set to expire at the end of 2021.
“I’ve tried, I really did,” Manchin said.
