President Donald Trump isn’t satisfied with getting Americans only $600 in direct coronavirus relief payments. Trump is pushing Congress for $2,000 checks — and he isn’t backing down.
“Why would politicians not want to give people $2,000, rather than only $600?” Trump said in a tweet on Christmas. “It wasn’t their fault, it was China. Give our people the money!”

The day before, Trump had lamented that the supposed coronavirus relief package “has almost nothing to do with COVID.”
“It’s called the COVID relief bill but it has almost nothing to do with COVID,” he said, adding that family members of undocumented immigrants were slated to receive $1,800 while Americans would get $600, according to Fox News. “This is far more than the Americans are given,” Trump said.
