Christian conservative and chairman of the Republican Party in Texas Allen West has announced he is stepping down after serving only one year on the job.
“It has been my distinct honor to serve as Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas. I pray Godspeed for this governing body,” West said in a press release.
Some in the Texas GOP are not happy with the news.
“It is now clear that Allen West’s entire tenure as Texas GOP Chair was intended to do only what many suspected: provide him a platform for his political future, not an opportunity to build the party,” Travis County GOP Chairman Matt Mackowiak said, according to Fox News.
The Fox News report also noted that West “has said he may challenge Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott in the upcoming primary.”
