PETITION: Put Congress on Social Security Like the Rest of Us

When America first become a nation, the founding fathers made one thing clear – there would be no titles or ranks in American life. From George Washington down to the most common farmer, all citizens would be considered equal under the law. Members of Congress were to meant serve the people – not grow rich off of them.

The founders’ lesson seems to have been forgotten in modern day Washington DC, where members of Congress have voted themselves rights and privileges that the rest of us don’t have – including fat pensions after they retire.  Meanwhile, ordinary Americans are barely getting by on social security payments.

Maybe if Congress had to live on Social Security like the rest of us, the program would be in better shape. Congress votes on social security, and they should have to live with the results.

It’s time to put Congress on Social Security – just like the rest of us.
