The White House just gave a resounding ‘no’ and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is fuming. The legitimacy of her entire impeachment push has been called into question.
In a detailed, earth-shaking letter, White House counsel Matt Cipollone skewered Pelosi and the Democrats. He said President Trump and his cabinet “cannot participate in your partisan and unconstitutional inquiry.”
Cipollone called out Pelosi’s “legally unsupported demands,” which will not be met because the Democrats are ignoring “the Constitution of the United States and all past bipartisan precedent.”
While Cipollone never formally calls on the House of Representatives to hold a formal vote on opening an impeachment inquiry, he makes an iron-clad case that Pelosi’s unilateral, undemocratic process is lawless.
“In the history of our Nation, the House of Representatives has never attempted to launch an impeachment inquiry against the president without a majority of the House taking political accountability,” he said.
Cipollone said that such accountability has always entailed “voting to authorize such a dramatic constitutional step,” yet today’s Democrats “have initiated the gravest inter-branch conflict contemplated under our Constitution.”
