The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) reported that the number of households participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) has reached a 10-year low. 18,093,759 households received some level of SNAP benefits in May 2019, which is the lowest number since January 2010.
The Trump administration recently closed some loopholes in the program that allowed some households to receive benefits without their incomes being checked, Breitbart News noted. The number of individuals participating also hit a 10 year low.
One loophole allowed “millionaires and others who simply receive a TANF-funded brochure to become eligible for SNAP when they clearly don’t need it,” Acting Agriculture Deputy Under Secretary Brandon Lipps said about the Trump administration’s actions.
Obama spent his entire administration expanding welfare, whether it was through Obamacare or food stamps. President Donald Trump is rolling that back, at least on the food stamp side.
