President Trump just shocked the world with a huge announcement. This would be a major game-changer and alter the geopolitical landscape forever.
Speaking to reporters, Trump commented on the news that the United State is considering an unexpected purchase: Greenland. “Essentially it’s a large real estate deal. A lot of things can be done,” Trump said.
He noted that the sparsely populated country is “hurting Denmark very badly because they’re losing almost $700 million a year carrying it.” He also said that “strategically for the United States, it would be very nice.”
Greenland’s position in the Arctic Ocean cannot be overstated. There’s another nation that America has an interest in keeping a close eye on that borders the ocean as well: Russia.
In short, Russia couldn’t cough without us knowing about it — and that’s certainly a strategic desire. White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow noted, “Greenland is a strategic place up there, and they’ve got a lot of valuable minerals.”
However, both Trump and Kudlow stopped short of promising it would happen. There hasn’t been a land purchase like this by the United States since Alaska and Hawaii in the 1860s. This move would make history.
