President Trump just made his move, and Speaker Pelosi is exploding with anger. She can’t believe he would do this to her, but he did it — and Trump fans across the nation love it.
The Trump Administration has announced a proposed rule on food stamps that will close major loopholes in the program to prevent the eligibility requirements from being abused. It is projected to save at least $2.5 billion a year in taxpayer dollars.
In a statement, Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Purdue said, “The American people expect their government to be fair, efficient, and to have integrity – just as they do in their own homes, businesses, and communities.”
Purdue continued: “That is why we are changing the rules, preventing abuse of a critical safety net system, so those who need food assistance the most are the only ones who receive it.”
The new rule would prevent those on the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program from being automatically eligible to receive food stamp benefits, commonly known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
Instead, a full review of the TANF recipient’s income and assets would have to be conducted. Senator Debbie Stabenow of Michigan, an anti-Trump Democrat, blasted the administration for making “harmful changes to nutrition assistance.”
