Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) of the Armed Services and Intelligence Committees invoked the 25th Amendment in comments to Chris Jansing on MSNBC about the ongoing feud between President Donald Trump and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). Speier questioned Trump’s mental fitness yet again and suggested the amendment be used to remove him from office, Fox News reported.
“I have felt for some time that the mental stability of the president of the United States is in question,” Speier said, adding that she has been calling for his removal under the 25th Amendment since 2017 when he nicknamed North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un “Rocket Man.”
Speier also said Trump should be removed from office if he withdraws from NATO, as he has sometimes talked about doing. It seems, however, that even members of her own party don’t take Speier seriously about removing Trump with the 25th Amendment.
It’s easy to throw around terms like “mental fitness” when you don’t like what a member of an opposing party does. Anyone can call anyone else crazy, but proving it is another story.
The longer Trump is in office, the more crazy he looks–crazy like a fox, as the saying goes. In reality, he has outsmarted many of his political opponents with unorthodox methods that look positively outlandish–until they work perfectly.
