The Daily Mail reported that former Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning is back in jail after she refused to testify before a grand jury about her involvement in Wikileaks.
Manning was released a week ago after a grand jury’s term expired. She spent two months in jail on a contempt charge, and has been returned to jail again now that a new grand jury has been empaneled.
She claims that she has already answered all the same questions nine years ago and that the DOJ is just “relitigating old material” to keep her in jail.
Manning spent seven years in military prisons for giving classified material to Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, who is now in U.S. custody.
President Obama commuted Manning’s 35-year sentence in 2017. Manning stated to the judge in the case that she would “rather starve to death” than cooperate.
Manning’s strong stand seems to be about more than just her testimony on Wikileaks, however. She has made accusations against the Trump administration for going after journalists and has claimed that his statements may lead to charges against journalists who disagree with his policies.
