Puerto Rico governor Ricardo Rosselló continued to avoid public appearances as hundreds of thousands of residents protested at his compound this week, according to Fox News. The governor is being called on to resign for comments he made that insulted female politicians and mocked victims of Hurricane Maria, which devastated the island in 2017.
More are expected to join the protests on Monday. Democrat presidential candidate Julian Castro, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) have all called for Rosello to resign.
Los Angeles Dodgers’ Enrique Hernandez, the Saint Louis Cardinals’ Yadier Molina, the Houston Astros’ Carlos Correa, the Cleveland Indians Francisco Lindor, and Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora have also called for Rosello’s resignation.
Rosello has asked for forgiveness for his comments, which including calling one female politician a “whore” and another a “daughter of a bitch.” 900 pages of his private messages between Rosello and other public officials were published by Puerto Rico’s Center for Investigative Journalism.
It looks like the governor has gone AWOL, which isn’t good for his chances to stay in office.
