The group Democracy Forward has sued President Donald Trump’s administration in an attempt to get documents released that would show the reasons for removing Tim Gallaudet from his position as acting administrator of NOAA in February.
The group thinks Trump is politicizing NOAA over its climate change assertions and that Gallaudet was removed for saying Trump had never asked to be briefed by NOAA since taking office.
The request was made in May, but has received more attention recently because NOAA mistakenly said Trump was wrong about early Hurricane Dorian predictions that showed some impact of the hurricane on Alabama.
Trump was mocked for his tweet about hurricane impacts on Alabama, but an early map confirmed his comment.
Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross also sent a letter to NOAA last week chiding the agency for contradicting Trump.
