Former House Oversight and Reform Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) took issue with a common Republican talking point related to impeachment on Face the Nation on Sunday.
Gowdy said there’s nothing wrong with having private hearings rather than public ones. Instead, he took issue with how Democrats are leaking selective parts of the testimony designed to make President Donald Trump look guilty.
“I’m a rule follower,” Gowdy told Margaret Brennan. “I threw a Republican out of a hearing because he was not a member of the committee. If you’re going to have private investigations with unlimited time for questioning and cross-examining witnesses, that’s a good thing.”
“What’s not a good thing is to have selective leaks where you pick one sentence out of an eight-hour deposition,” Gowdy said, slamming Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA), who is presiding over the hearings.
Gowdy also said there was nothing wrong with Trump or Ukraine investigating election interference. “If a Democrat did that, we’d be adding something to Mount Rushmore,” he said.
