An influential Democrat just resigned in shame after a stunning indictment. The swamp is being drained at all levels, exactly as President Trump promised. Justice is served.
Delegate Tawanna P. Gaines, a member of the Maryland General Assembly — serving the state’s House of Representatives since 2001 — has been charged with wire fraud by federal prosecutors.
According to prosecutors, Del. Gaines took more than $22,000 from her campaign account and used the funds as her personal piggy-bank, which is a major crime. She used a PayPal account to transfer the money, which wasn’t disclosed.
“Over the past 17 years, I have given my heart and soul to the citizens of the state of Maryland, working tirelessly for legislation that has supported the health and welfare of our constituents,” said Gaines in her resignation letter.
She also noted that she is resigning “after much thought and consideration,” which is political-speak for admitting you got caught but don’t want to address the problem directly.
No one is above the law, not even a long-serving Democratic politician. Trump and the U.S. Department of Justice are bringing integrity and honor back to an agency that was defiled by the Obama Administration.
