As announcements and rumors swirl about who’s in and who’s out in 2020, Democrats are already wringing their hands over a powerful businessman leaving the party and signaling a desire to run for president.
Former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz could be poised to give Democrats a headache as they seek to defeat President Trump. Schultz, now an independent, is strongly considering a run for president, and this could spell trouble for Democrats hoping to keep their base united.
Already, it seems Schultz is trying to capitalize on the discontent of Democrat voters by painting the national party as out of touch. “Not only the fact that this president is not qualified to be the president, but the fact that both parties are consistently not doing what’s necessary on behalf of the American people,” he said in a 60 Minutes interview recently.
Regardless of how Schultz’ political posturing turns out, it is becoming clear that big-money liberals in the corporate world are getting frustrated with the Democratic Party’s priorities. Bitter infighting is not something the party can afford to have at this juncture as the concerns of splitting the vote mount. The rest of us will get the popcorn.
