Ted Cruz Shocks White House – Trump Notified
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) called again on Thursday for legislation to make Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán and other drug lords to pay for President Donald Trump’s planned border wall between the U.S. and Mexico, the Hill reported.
Cruz cheered as Guzman received a life sentence in a New York courtroom Thursday. In a TMZ interview, Cruz said the next step is forfeiting his billion-dollar global criminal enterprise.
“It’s why I introduced legislation, the EL CHAPO Act, to use that money to build the wall,” Cruz said. The Justice Department has said that Guzman is worth about $12 billion.
Cruz admits that finding the assets won’t be easy, but said the Justice Department would be tasked with doing so under the legislation.
Cruz said that Trump is enthusiastic about the legislation. Whether it can get through the Democrat-controlled House, however, is another story.
