Senator Ted Cruz just gave notice. The halls of power in DC have been rocked, and he is just getting started. Cruz won’t back down.
Speaking to attendees at the Young America’s Foundation (YAF) National Conservative Student Conference, Cruz has a message for liberals — especially those who run our institutions of higher education.
In response to an account from a Binghampton University student — who recalled having to “write our gender pronouns on the board” and use trigger warnings in debate competitions — Cruz sent the room into cheers.
“One of the saddest things we’re seeing is our colleges and universities are trying really hard to raise a generation of pansies,” said Cruz. “What is this sense that you have a right not to be offended?”
Cruz is right, of course. Colleges and universities were once far more tolerant of free speech, however, this is changing rapidly and it’s hurting students in the long run.
“Look, the entire purpose of university is to hear ideas that are scary,” noted Cruz. What he’s getting at here is that students aren’t being prepared for the real world by being sheltered from opinions deemed politically incorrect. This has to change.
