The Trump administration’s new asylum rules are being challenged in court. However, the Supreme Court just gave an order that the rules remain in place while the case is resolved.
The new rules essentially bar anyone from seeking asylum in the U.S. if they haven’t sought asylum in closer countries.
Under these rules, if someone is coming from Columbia and they don’t seek asylum in Mexico, they will be barred from the U.S.
These rules make a lot of sense and will do a lot to fight the abuse of asylum claims. Too long, economic migrants have claimed asylum after passing through safe countries. It needs to end.
