Billionaire Democratic donor George Soros has thrown his weight behind an effort to stop the Trump administration from adding one simple question to the 2020 census.
That question, which previously appeared long-form questionnaires in 2000 and was regularly asked in census forms from 1820 to 1950, is “Are you a U.S. citizen?”
One Soros-funded lobbyist group, Asian Americans Advancing Justice, called the question “racially and politically motivated.”
Latino Justice, also funded by Soros, warned that it would “damage all our daily lives for decades.”
The left’s inflammatory rhetoric did not, however, impress the conservative majority Supreme Court, which indicated after hearing arguments on Tuesday that it will likely allow the question.
That’s good news for all Americans who believe in an accurate census, since the purpose of the census is to count American citizens so that the appropriate number of congressional representatives can be allotted to each state.
