He was just arrested at the White House. This developing story has been spreading nationwide, and people are shocked. President Trump never expected this to happen.
While the reason for his outstanding arrest warrant wasn’t clear, 50-year-old Chris Grant of Texas — who reportedly acted bravely during the El Paso shooting and sustained gunshots — was apprehended and briefly detained by the Secret Service.
In a statement, the Secret Service said the “White House visitor” was released once it became known that “the agency that issued the warrant would not extradite.” Few details are known beyond this information.
However, President Trump recently praised Grant for taking action during the horrific shooting that left 22 people dead. Trump, at a ceremony last month, said that Grant took “two serious gunshot wounds but he is recovering well.”
For this week’s ceremony that Grant was scheduled to attend before his run-in with the Secret Service, his mother attended in his place and received a certificate honoring her son’s service.
Grant should continue to be remembered as a hero. We need even more people willing to put their lives on the line for others, not less. It is telling that Trump chose to honor Grant even during this unexpected controversy.
