Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, 55, has settled his divorce from wife MacKenzie for $38.1 billion dollars in Amazon stock. The settlement makes MacKenzie Bezos, 49, the 22nd richest person in the world.
Bezos’ now-ex received 19.7 million Amazon shares, or about four percent of the company’s holdings. Jeff Bezos will retain voting rights on those shares, however. He will also retain his status as the world’s richest man, along with a 12% stake in the company.
A King County, Washington judge finalized the divorce, which occurred after it was revealed that Jeff Bezos was having an affair. MacKenzie Bezos gave up her stake in the Washington Post and space exploration firm Blue Origins as part of the settlement.
MacKenzie Bezos has said she will give half of her fortune to charity under the Giving Pledge. Others who have signed onto the pledge include Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffet.
The couple was married for 26 years and have 4 children together.
