Trump is negotiating a deal that would dramatically reduce illegal immigration.
“President Donald Trump’s deputies may soon finalize a “safe third country” deal with Guatemala that would allow U.S. border officials to legally block most migrants from even applying for asylum.”
The deal will make Guatemala a holding ground for asylum seekers. It will avoid the problem we are having on the border with our overwhelmed facilities.
The New Yorker reports:
What’s so striking about the agreement with Guatemala, however, is that it goes even further than the terms the U.S. sought in its dealings with Mexico. “This is a whole new level.”
Trump is working to keep the border from being flooded by asylum seekers.
If he can get this done, all asylum seekers can be immediately sent back to Guatemala. This will discourage people from crossing illegally, and lighten the load on our services.
