Heartbreaking news was just issued. An American has tragically died, and the nation is mourning this terrible loss.
Sydney Monfries, a senior journalism student at Fordham University, has passed away due to the injuries she sustained falling from the campus’s clock tower. The school confirmed the awful news in a statement.
In a letter, Fordham University President Joseph McShane wrote, “It is with great sadness that I report that Sydney Monfries […] died today after sustaining a fall inside the Keating Clock tower in the early hours of the morning.”
McShane wrote that “Fordham will confer a bachelor’s degree upon Sydney posthumously, which we will present to her parents at the appropriate time.” Monfries and other seniors were “mere weeks from graduation.”
While she was in deeply critical condition after the fall, the nation was praying that she would pull through. Sadly, another bright young person has been taken from us much too soon.
Monfries passed away while on life support at St. Barnabas Hospital in New York City. Please pray for her family and friends during this extremely difficult time of mourning.
