The Senate vote was just confirmed. President Trump is celebrating — he has been working overtime to get a handle on this issue. American security depends on it.
A bill by sponsored by Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) and co-sponsored by Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) has been blocked in the Senate for now. The bill would “eliminate the per-country cap on green cards,” according to reports.
The legislati0n is causing a stir within the Republican Party. Some see it as special treatment for big tech, an industry that wants Indian and Chinese workers, while others see this as a way to favor more high-skilled workers coming into the country.
However, in the end, the bill stalling means that President Trump and Republicans can work out any flaws in the bill before it is reconsidered. Sen. David Purdue (R-GA) blocked the bill but indicated his support for the underlying idea.
Purdue said, “I support this bill … we have some language that needs to be clarified. And I still have some concerns about the impact this legislation would have on some specific industries in my state and in the country.”
Trump supports legal immigration and will continue to move in the right direction to close loopholes in the system. Any tweaking of the green card system needs to be done methodically and with the best interest of Americans in mind.
