Roy Moore has decided to run for the 2020 Republican Senate seat he lost in 2016, despite Republican objections, the Washington Times reported. Moore won the Republican nomination but lost a contentious race to Democrat Doug Jones after allegations surfaced that Moore had dated girls as young as 13 when he was in his 30s.
“Can I win? Yes, I can win,” he told backers as he launched his campaign.
GOP officials are not convinced, however.
Former Trump administration official Nikki Haley said that Moore did not represent the Republican Party. “At what point does he think another run will have a different response?” Haley tweeted.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) also opposed Moore’s candidacy. “We’ll be opposing Roy Moore vigorously,” McConnell told reporters.
