The Washington Examiner reported Monday that a reporter for the New York Times Wajahat Ali got a surprise when he questioned Rep. Dan Crenshaw’s (R-TX) patriotism in a tweet.
“Anytime a Republican says they are ‘patriots’ ask them if they voted to fund the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund. You know who’s for it? Ilhan Omar. You know who hasn’t sponsored it? Dan Crenshaw,” Ali wrote in a since-deleted tweet on Tuesday.
“Hey ‘journalist,’ maybe you should check your facts. I am a co-sponsor. Nice try though,” Crenshaw responded, with an image of his skull taken after an explosive device detonated during a tour in Iraq in 2012.
Crenshaw lost an eye in the blast but completed two more tours overseas before he was medically retired in 2016. At retirement he was a Navy commander.
The veteran signed on to the bill in May, but Ali made sure to note that he was a “holdout” up until that point. How many tours did you do in Iraq, Ali?
