President Trump has picked a replacement for outgoing U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services director L. Francis Cissna.
Trump indicated he will nominate former Virginia attorney general Ken Cuccinelli, a conservative activist whose aggressive opposition to establishment GOP officials makes him a controversial choice.
However, one significant roadblock stands in the way of Cuccinelli’s confirmation: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).
McConnell has said he will block Cuccinelli from any White House appointment, and it’s easy to see why.
In 2014, Cuccinelli was involved in an effort to promote Republican candidates running against GOP incumbents.
What’s more, Cuccinelli added his signature to a letter calling on McConnell to step aside.
