Vice President Mike Pence unloaded on obstructionist Democrats in a Tuesday op-ed, vowing the White House “will not be deterred” by their refusal to negotiate a border wall deal.
“Even as we face a crisis on our southern border, and as 800,000 federal workers go without paychecks, Democrats in Congress have been unwilling to seriously discuss even partial wall funding. President Trump and our administration will not be deterred by the Democrats’ obstruction. The American people want to see action, and we intend to deliver,” Pence wrote in an op-ed published by USA Today.
Pence’s strong words come amid the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, with neither side showing any sign of ceding to the other’s demands.
Nevertheless, Pence called on Democrats to return to the negotiating table to help create a budget proposal everyone can agree on.
