Vice President Mike Pence has denied that he stayed at a Trump golf resort for any nefarious reason, stating by way of explanation that he has family in the area and that he paid for his sister and mother who stayed with him.
Pence said that President Donald Trump suggested he stay at the resort, but did not order him do so, obviously. Critics in the media have suggested that Trump wanted to profit financially from Pence and his family staying there.
The resort was 180 miles away from Dublin where Pence had official meetings. Trump stayed in Washington to closely monitor the movement of Hurricane Dorian and its effects on the southeast part of the U.S.
Congressional lawmakers including Reps. Ted Lieu (D-CA) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) also questioned the move on Twitter and suggested that Trump was constantly engaging in activities to enrich himself financially while president.
