Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi just surrendered. It is the end of the line for her. Democrats are furious, but supporters of President Trump are cheering.
Pelosi and most of her fellow Democrats shockingly chose to pass a short-term spending bill to keep the government open while a long-term package is discussed — and they did it without slipping in any anti-Trump proposals.
Some Democrats were hoping that Pelosi would’ve used the legislation to hit Trump on several issues, such as his border and immigration policies. The decision to lay low caught many by surprise.
Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) ended up voting for the bill, however, she said that refusing to fight Trump was a “macro-level issue.” She admitted, “I just don’t think we play hardball.”
In the end, only three House Democrats voted against the spending bill — Reps. Juan Vargas (CA), Filemon Vela (TX), and Vincente Gonzales (TX). It makes one wonder if Democrats simply don’t have any energy left to fight.
After all, Trump continues to win most major political battles. The House may be controlled by Pelosi, but Republicans still have the Senate. The president also has a reliably conservative Supreme Court. Pelosi’s agenda could be finished.
