House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) called on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to shut down her party’s efforts to impeach President Donald Trump in remarks on Fox News on Friday, IJR reported.
Scalise said Pelosi’s recent side-stepping of questions about impeachment showed that she “condoned” the actions of the Judiciary Committee, chaired by Jerry Nadler (D-NY), to pursue impeachment even though they had no grounds to do so.
Scalise also said the same committee had jurisdiction over the migrant situation at the U.S. border, and was engaging in a “witch hunt” over impeachment rather than deal with the border.
“Instead of solving the crisis at our border, they’re just infatuated with these witch hunts and impeaching the president, even though, by their own admission, there is nothing yet to impeach him on,” Scalise said.
“This is irresponsible. It’s reckless,” Scalise went on, adding that Pelosi “ought to confront it and say, ‘We’re not going to move toward that. The Mueller report showed there was no collusion, showed there was no any kind of obstruction of justice.’ They need to move on.”
