Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi just came forward and notified the press. It’s really over, and longtime DC observers are stunned.
According to reports, Speaker Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer have reached a deal with President Trump on a major infrastructure package to the tune of $2 trillion. This is unprecedented.
Pelosi and Schumer have made careers recently out of criticizing Trump and further creating a political divide between Americans. But this seems to be a rare instance of unity.
Since the beginning of his term, Trump has said he wanted to make infrastructure a priority and that he wanted to bring together as many members of Congress as possible, regardless of party.
Pelosi remarked that they had “come to one agreement: that the agreement would be big and bold,” while Schumer said the meeting “was a very, very good start.”
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders noted that their meeting was “excellent and productive,” which we can only hope is a sign of things to come. Let’s see if Democrats remain this cordial going forward.
