House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) tried to diminish President Donald Trump’s huge Friday night announcement of an agreement with Mexico to avoid tariffs, according to Fox News.
Pelosi called Trump “reckless” even though he got Mexico to agree to send 6,000 troops to its southern border and to keep thousands of immigrants in Mexico while waiting for asylum hearings.
“President Trump undermined America’s preeminent leadership role in the world by recklessly threatening to impose tariffs on our close friend and neighbor to the south,” Pelosi said, adding, “Threats and temper tantrums are no way to negotiate foreign policy.”
Her huge hissy fit over the agreement could not overshadow the even bigger win for Trump in avoiding tariffs on Mexican imports and getting major concessions for help to stop the flow of immigrants coming through Mexico to get to the U.S.
It’s only “reckless” if you don’t have the business and negotiating sense to leverage your power to get what you want from the other side. Trump clearly has both.
