A stunning announcement was just made — she is running and Democrats are in a state of shock. They never thought this would happen so late in the game, and it changes everything.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) will have a formidable challenger in the Democratic primary: Former CNBC anchor Michelle Caruso-Cabrera, who filed this week for the race.
“Caruso-Cabrera has been with CNBC for more than two decades,” reported The Hill. “The network said Tuesday she will no longer appear as a contributor on the network.”
The incumbent, Ocasio-Cortez, was hoping to avoid any competition — especially from within her own party — but it seems even many Democrats have had enough of her shenanigans.
A response from Ocasio-Cortez wasn’t immediately available, however, Caruso-Cabrera explained in a statement why she is running for Congress in New York’s 14th District.
“I am the daughter and granddaughter of working class Italian and Cuban immigrants,” she said. “I am so lucky to have had such a wonderful career and I want everybody to have the opportunity that I’ve had.”
