Already, newly-elected Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and other socialist politicians are finding it difficult to realize their goals. As the old adage goes, “Money doesn’t grow on trees.”
News out of the hopelessly liberal utopia of California only serves to underscore this point. Ocasio-Cortez dreams of everyone ditching airplanes for trains, but California is now scrapping its planned high-speed rail from San Francisco to Los Angeles, a move announced by Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom over financial concerns.
As Newsom put it in his recent State of the State address, “Let’s be real, the current project as planned would cost too much and, respectfully, take too long. Right now, there simply isn’t a path to get from Sacramento to San Diego, let alone from San Francisco to L.A. I wish there were.”
This turn of events is ironic. Even in a state like California that treats taxpayers like they have an endless supply of cash to give away, reality is finally hitting home. There just isn’t a way to fund every project government planners deem worthy, much to the dismay of liberals everywhere.
